Citizens of Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden can now use automated passport-control gates when arriving at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport.
According to ScandAsia, the four Nordic countries have been added to new airport signage detailing eligible passports for the automated system. They join a broader list of 33 nationalities now permitted to skip the standard manual immigration queues.
Navigating the new system
Using the e-gates cuts down processing time, which is particularly helpful during Suvarnabhumi's busy arrival windows. If you hold an eligible passport, keep these practical points in mind:
- Follow the updated signs: Look for the displays listing the 33 eligible nationalities to find the e-gate lanes rather than joining the standard foreign passport lines.
- Airport limitations: This rollout is currently confirmed only for Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK). It is unclear if the system is active for these nationalities at Don Mueang or Phuket.
- Visa compatibility: The initial reports do not specify if the e-gates accept all visa types—such as long-term non-immigrant visas—or if they are restricted to tourists entering on visa exemptions.
