Severe flooding and landslides have severed major travel routes in Northern Thailand. Highway 108 between Mae Sariang and Chiang Mai is currently impassable due to mudslides and fallen power lines.
Further east, the situation has reached a critical point. The government has officially declared Nan province a disaster zone after floodwaters breached the 9.10-meter mark, forcing emergency 2 AM evacuations in two high-risk districts.
According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rain and flash flood risks will continue to batter 80 percent of the Northern, Northeastern, and Eastern regions.
What this means for your travel and safety

If you live in or are traveling through the North, expect immediate infrastructure disruptions and heed local warnings.
- Road closures: Highway 108 is completely blocked. Avoid driving between Mae Sariang and Chiang Mai until authorities clear the landslides.
- Bus route changes: Long-distance bus services on the Bangkok–Thung Chang route are terminating early at Pua district due to flooded roads, according to Krungthep Turakij.
- Evacuation zones: Residents in high-risk districts must monitor local announcements closely and be prepared to move valuables to higher ground immediately.
The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has issued extreme flood warnings for vulnerable persons near the overflowing Nan River. Keep your devices charged due to the risk of widespread power outages.
