Thailand's Immigration Bureau has officially rolled out the Thailand Immigration Management (THIM) mobile app for all incoming international visitors. The launch follows a pilot phase that began earlier this year.
According to Police Lieutenant General Panumas Boonyalug, the Immigration Bureau commissioner, the app is designed to give foreign visitors easier access to immigration and travel services. The official launch was reported by the Bangkok Post on September 25.
What this means for you
The immediate benefit for expats, relocators, and tourists is the digitization of the arrival process. Instead of filling out paper forms, travelers can now pre-register their information.
Here is what the new system currently offers:
- Digital Arrival Cards: The app extracts your passport details to generate a verified Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) in under three minutes, according to legal firm Siam Legal.
- Pre-registration: You can complete your arrival information before you travel, which is intended to streamline your time at the immigration counter.
- Future Extensions: According to the Chiang Rai Times, the platform's digitized services will eventually include processing for future stay extensions.
While the app is officially live, current government announcements do not clarify whether the THIM app completely replaces the physical TM6 paper arrival card at all border checkpoints, or if it remains an optional alternative.
To use the service, travelers should look for the official "Thailand Immigration Management (THIM) Application" on their mobile devices. Because the app has just transitioned out of its trial phase, it is highly recommended to keep a physical copy of your passport and travel documents handy while the new digital system is fully integrated.
