Bangkok Bank will permanently close its "Bualuang iBanking" web service on December 15, 2026, requiring all customers to manage their accounts via the bank's mobile application.
The announcement, reported by Thai-language business outlets Prachachat Turakij and Khaosod, marks the end of the bank's desktop-based internet banking platform. According to Prachachat Turakij (in Thai), the bank cited limitations in developing new features and upgrading security protocols on the legacy web system as the primary reasons for the closure.
What this means for you
For expats who rely on a desktop browser to manage their Bangkok Bank accounts, pay bills, or transfer funds, this means a mandatory shift to a smartphone or tablet. Khaosod (in Thai) notes that all transactions currently available on the web platform will remain accessible through the mobile app.
To ensure uninterrupted access to your funds, you should take the following steps before the December 15 deadline:
- Download the app: Install the Bangkok Bank mobile banking application on your primary smartphone.
- Verify your access: Ensure your mobile app is fully activated and linked to all your active accounts.
- Check device compatibility: Mobile banking apps frequently require recent operating systems for security reasons, so verify that your phone meets the app's minimum requirements.
If you need assistance setting up the mobile application, you can visit any Bangkok Bank branch. Note that standard bank policy for expats typically requires you to bring your passport, passbook, and the Thai SIM card registered to your account.
